Campamento

Campamento occupies a distinct position in the La Línea municipality — it is a separate township area rather than an inner-city barrio, sitting to the north of the main urban area near the San Roque municipality boundary. It developed as a working-class settlement and remains one of the most affordable areas in the municipality, with a strong local identity and a community that does not particularly depend on tourist or Gibraltar-worker income.

The housing stock is primarily low-rise residential blocks and terraced houses, mostly built in the 1970s and 1980s. Properties are functional and affordable, with fewer of the premium finishes you would find in newer developments. But the space-to-cost ratio is excellent — you can rent a three-bedroom flat in Campamento for what you would pay for a studio in Gibraltar.

The proximity to the border approach road is both a practical advantage and a source of traffic. Campamento is positioned on the route that connects the A-7 coastal motorway to the border crossing, so road links are good. For Gibraltar workers who drive to a parking area and then walk or cycle across the border, the commute from Campamento is manageable.
