Junquillos

Junquillos is one of the most affordable barrios in La Línea, a straightforwardly residential neighbourhood that offers good value for money without pretension. The area developed primarily in the second half of the twentieth century to house the city's working population, and that working-class identity persists — this is a neighbourhood of ordinary Spanish life, neighbourhood bars, local shops, and streets where people know each other.

The housing stock reflects the barrio's history: low-rise blocks built for practicality rather than aesthetics, but often solidly constructed and larger than you might expect for the price. Many properties have been privately updated over the decades, so the quality of individual flats varies considerably. Visiting before signing is always advisable.

For those on a tight budget who want to live in La Línea proper rather than on its outskirts, Junquillos delivers. It is connected to the rest of the city by bus and close enough to the town centre that a bicycle or a brisk walk can get you most places you need to go.
